Letter to Governor & Highways Commissioner from Representatives

November 27, 2007

The Honorable Joe Manchin III

 Commissioner Paul A. Mattox, Jr.
Governor West Virginia Division of Highways

INTERDEPARTMENTAL MAIL

Dear Sirs:

I am forwarding, by this letter, a copy of an email that I received from Mrs. Bonnie Hall.  Mrs. Hall expresses her concerns over the truck traffic that services the well drilling operations by Chesapeake Gas Company.  She has conducted two forums for Chesapeake to respond to the concerns of the citizens of the Silver Hill area and other locations in Wetzel County.  I have personally attended  these meetings and have been impressed with Chesapeake’s desire to solve the problems caused by these trucks.  I have also witnessed these trucks.  It is scary!

I have worked with Gary Edgell, Director of Transportation - Enforcement Division of the Public Service Commission, concerning this matter.  The PSC  has continuous coverage of the affected area and has issued many citations.   However, our laws do not cover many of the dangerous activities of the huge trucks.

It is therefore our desire to see changes made during the upcoming session.  Senator Kessler and Delegate Pethtel join me in this endeavor.  We would appreciate an early meeting during the upcoming session with you.

Sincerely,

Larry J. Edgell                        Jeffrey V. Kessler                               Dave Pethtel
